Introduction

The Office of Research Information Services (ORIS) submitted a proposal to the UW Admin Roadmap team for prioritization/evaluation. The proposal (attached) was geared towards a portal for the research community but also suggested that the scope of the project could be widened to look at solutions for a University-wide portal. In addition to the need for a portal in the research area, Kuali Student and Kuali Rice projects will need a portal, and UW Technology would like to develop a strategy for the future of the Campus-wide portal, currently MyUW. 

At a meeting on June 4th, Mary Lidstrom, Sara Gomez, and Kelli Trosvig agreed to co-sponsor a scoping study to evaluate and make a recommendation on a portal platform that could be used for all University populations and to propose a high-level implementation plan that would include research administration as an early pilot.

Project Sponsor approval obtained

This morning we presented an overview of the project goals, deliverables, timeline, and approach.  We received positive feedback and approval to proceed as planned.  The sponsors noted the importance of including a measure the reliability/health of the candidate portals open source communities in the evaluation.  It was also recommended we as specific estimates as possible on required resources for the future implementation project and a plan for communicating with critical campus stakeholders around why a portal was chosen and what opportunities it represents.

Evaluation sub teams forming

The Project Coordination Team has nearly completed the formation of the evaluation sub teams having selected leads and clearing team member participation with supervisors.  Next week we'll be preparing for the sponsor's charter review meeting.
