C&C Service Directions Team
About the SDT
Next meeting agenda (04 September 2007)
Suggestions from Tom on 08.23.07
- What do Shibboleth entrants to the UW online world get to access (UA services, Catalyst, etc.
- Likelihood, practicality, desirability of using a non-UW storage cloud.
- How does one, whose projects oft overlap ATAC and IMAC boundaries, navigate the shoals?
- What is (or what should be) the relationship between UA services/ Catalyst and the burgeoning
Microsoft oeuvre? What about students? - Overcoming the challenges posed by intergroup (OIM, C&C, LST) collaborative projects.
- Managerial accountability and the autonomy this may/could necessitate.
- Infusing user-based design meaningfully into our day-to-day operations and the services and
resources we offer. How do we collect useful data to support this as we do our everyday work?

C&C Services Direction Team Charter
DRAFT 0.04 : 16 May 2007
The C&C Services Direction Team (SDT) is responsible for working with the UW community to jointly "paint the future" of technology at the University of Washington. The SDT is a body that can focus discussions on specific new technology directions at a broad strategic level, encompassing vision, strategic direction and intent, and long-term goals and objectives. The SDT has the responsibility for articulating C&C technology strategies.
SDT discussions will include broad representation from across the UW in addition to the core members of the SDT itself. The participants in any specific discussion will vary according to the topic and interests of participants, but may include technologists from academic departments or colleges, research scientists, teaching faculty, students, administrators, and others. SDT discussions may also include participants from outside the UW community, such as vendors or technologists from other institutions.
Typical outputs of SDT efforts may include ideas for new services or directions to be operationalized by C&C or others within the University; white papers or scenarios fleshed out for sharing and wider discussion; and symposia and presentations for interested members of the UW community.
The SDT is a key participant in C&C's overall planning process. The SDT will participate in reviews of specific service proposals and participate in making recommendations to the VP of C&C on action to be taken on specific proposals.
The SDT is not responsible for overseeing implementation or production deployment of new services for C&C.
It is expected that when existing service families identify needs for major new service offerings they will want to discuss those ideas with the SDT, and resulting new offerings will reflect SDT input as appropriate.
In particular, the SDT, with support from the Emerging Technology team, sponsors periodic service line roadmap reviews.
SDT membership will be selected to reflect perspectives from across the C&C/OIM organizations and the institution. Members will typically be chosen to reflect strategic technology focus.
The SDT will engage in, and encourage others in C&C to engage in, conversations with a broad cross-section of campus IT users and leaders.
The SDT is led by the Executive Director of Emerging Technology, with sponsorship of the Vice President for Computing & Communications and the Associate Vice President for Technology & Architecture.
