Introduction

In recent years, there has been an increasing reference to Data Mesh architectures that purport to enable more effective data analytics at scale in complex organizations.

Vendors of data and analytics platforms have started offering Data Mesh solutions through new products and services.

Based on interest at a presentation and discussion at the June 30 Embedded Architects meeting, several members have decided to pursue options in this research group.

Goals

Understand Data Mesh principles and implications of.

Explore how are these principles being applied or could be applied at the UW.

  • Increased visibility of data products
  • Clarity in ownership of data products
  • Easier sharing of data and less movement of data
  • Easier integration of data

Format

We will meet monthly to:

  • Pre-read an article
  • Answer a few questions (how might this apply to your team? to the UW?)
  • Meet to discuss the article and our responses
  • Write down any major observations we want to record

Periodically, we will check:

  • Is there a PoC or small project that would advance this further?
  • Are there any implications for current decisions or service strategies?
  • Is there potential for a white paper and/or recommendations?
