(a) What is the relation between files on lolo and files on hyak?

Hyak (ikt.hyak and mox.hyak) and lolo are separate systems and the files on lolo cannot be accessed from hyak.

(b) How do I turn on access to lolo?

Enable lolo access at:

http://uwnetid.washington.edu/manage/?service

See below link for more information on how to turn on lolo access.

(c) How can I find out what files I have already got on lolo?

Below abc is your userid and xyz is your hyak group.

ssh abc@lolo.washington.edu

cd /archive/hyak/xyz/abc

ls

(d) How can I copy files from hyak to lolo and from lolo to hyak?

Below abc is your userid and xyz is your hyak group.

Hyak groups have disk space on lolo  at /archve/hyak/xyz .

Files on /archive/hyak/xyz should be 100MB or larger. You can use tar to create a single tar file from a directory and then use sftp or scp to copy the tar file to lolo.

Suppose the files that you want to transfer are in the directory mydir. Use below command to tar the files:

tar -cvf mydir.tar mydir

Method 1 sftp

Use below commands from the hyak login node to sftp a tar file from hyak to lolo.

sftp abc@lolo.washington.edu

mkdir /archive/hyak/xyz/abc  (Do this only once.)

cd /archive/hyak/xyz/abc

put mydir.tar

quit

If you want to get a file from lolo to hyak then use "get mydir.tar" instead of "put mydir.tar" in above steps.

Method 2 scp

Use below commands from the hyak login node to scp a tar file from hyak to lolo.

scp mydir.tar abc@lolo.washington.edu:/archive/hyak/xyz/abc

If you want to get a file from lolo to hyak then use below commands from the hyak login node as shown below (Note the dot at the end):

scp abc@lolo.washington.edu:/archive/hyak/xyz/abc/mydir.tar .
