Each time you login to hyak you have to enter your netid password and the number from the key. Here are instructions to open multiple terminal windows without having to enter your netid password and number from the key.

  • Linux *

If you are on linux, you can login to hyak once, using below command

ssh -X xyz@hyak.washington.edu

Then issue below command to open more terminal windows:

xterm &

  • Mac OS *

If you are on Mac OS, try below command to see if your version of Mac OS has X Window support.

xclock

If the command is not found then install X11 from below location:

https://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac

You can login to hyak once, using below command

ssh -X xyz@hyak.washington.edu

Then issue below command to open more terminal windows:

xterm &

  • Windows *

The Windows OS does not support ssh as part of the operating system. Hence you will have to install an ssh client to connect to hyak. See below link for more information.
