The National Science Foundation is working with the InCommon Federation and the University of Washington to change the way university users sign on to NSF web sites.  The first site to use this "federated" approach will be Research.gov, the new portal for a partnership of federal research-oriented grant making agencies.  Using federation, a UW user no longer needs to use a NSF-assigned account and password to sign on, but can instead sign on using their familiar UW NetID and password, via the same UW Weblogin service that they use to sign on to many other UW services.

Initially this new approach is being tested using a test/demonstration version of Research.gov.  The data found there may be incorrect or out of date, and any changes made there will not affect the official Research.gov or FastLane.
