Agile in Jira

All projects in Jira can make use of the Agile capabilities by clicking the Agile tab in Jira. For more information about scrum methodology as used by UW-IT, view the Project Management Portal. All of the projects contained in UW-IT’s Jira issue management system have access to the GreenHopper plug-in, which provides substantial support for Scrum* and Kanban* projects. The Agile functionality is accessed through the “Agile” pull-down menu. The user may select:

  1. Planning Board displays a list issues which can be subject to a user defined filter which facilitates the user creating and prioritizing issues.
  2. Task Board is a visual task board used to track the progress of an issue. The issue is found in the column that is mapped to the appropriate status (the default mapping is shown in figure 1).
  3. Chart Board provides several project metrics including “Burn-down charts” and “Cumulative Flow” by story points and hours.
  4. Release Board provides summary views of the project.

The list of issues shown in the Planning Board and Task Board can be displayed in various user selected views:

  • Summaries
  • Cards
  • List

The Project Lead can configure these fields in these views (Agile -->Tools -> Configuration -> Card Style).

GreenHopper is an Atlassian-supported add-on to Jira that enables managing agile projects. You can find more information about Greenhopper at Atllassian's GreenHopper 101.

*Scrum and Kanban are types of Agile development.
