      • Everyday resiliency and diversity by design
        • Current Web site, and new site, are both hosted locally. Are working on identifying all of most vital pages, which will be synched regularly to out-of-town locations. Working on a Home Page Lite version that can run when needed.

      • UW Emergency Management (EOC)
    • Web Page Diversity

        • Tulane's critical information was in many locations on campus
        • Hard to protect and recover
      • Managed servers in UW data centers

      • URL forwarding to alternative sites
        • What are business continuity priorities for forwarding?
  • Discussion
    • Will mailman lists be resilient?
      • Currently located here in Seattle
      • Mailman is heavily used for distribution lists
      • In emergency, want the same lists to be usable, less interested in special lists
      • Would it be workable to have snapshots of lists available, without the ability to update the list? Apparently, yes.
    • Information School has an agreement with U. of North Carolina for emergency Web site
      • How can failover be set up, what would be best practice
      • Have alternative site available through its own URL and publicize it
      • Having the standard familiar address work requires ability to update DNS
        • UWIT is investing in tool that will streamline DNS management
    • Is UWIT moving data services into the cloud?
      • Definitely working on using cloud services for personal services
      • Likely to be more of it happening
      • Still exploring how might be done for basic services, administrative
    • Environmental Health and Safety expects not to be posting much information itself
      • EHS was one of the first to adopt UW Alert script and put it on their page
      • Detailed information will be posted on the Emergency blot
      • Do want to consider what to talk about with your staff, how to support staff in disaster

    • Emergency Resource Links
    • Norm Arkans comments
      • This has all been in the works for only three years
      • We did not have rapidity
      • Every emergency is different
        • Requires getting group of people together very fast, within 20 seconds, and deciding what to do
        • Communication now relies very heavily on technology
        • Hazmat events usually produce a large response, but the message that goes out is mainly asking people to stay away from the area
        • Always an element of chaos
        • Essential to provide people with whatever information we have as soon as we can get it out
      • Chile type situation can happen where we would lose electricity
        • Would put most us out of business
        • We do have bullhorns, police cars have speakers, blue towers have speakers, new fire alarms will have speakers
      • Crisis Communications Plan is available online
    • Is there any plan to do a large scale emergency drill
      • Emergency Management does hold an annual drill of all the first responders, about 1200 people
      • Do not hold larger drills
      • Units are encouraged to do drop-cover-hold drills that include evaluating emergency response procedures (announcements, evacuation, etc.)
